I gave my cocktiel raw broccoli right now and its eating it but my parakeets wont eat vegetables, they only eat the seeds how can i make them eat vegetables?

- A cockatiel diet must be supplemented with fresh fruit and vegetables on a daily basis. An all seed diet often results in an unhealthy or overweight cockatiel. FRUIT: apple, grape, guava, kiwi fruit, mango, melon, nectarine, orange, peach, pear, pomegranate, plum, strawberry, tangerine, watermelon VEGETABLES: bok choy, broccoli, carrot (chopped or grated), celery, chard, lettuce (but small amounts of lettuce and not too often as not a lot of goodness), peas, silverbeet, spinach, sweetcorn, watercress, zucchini Favorites with cockatiels tend to be apple, egg, pasta, peas, rice, silverbeet, spinach, sweetcorn. Note that the fruit and vegetables should be provided: thoroughly washed in small pieces at room temperature unpeeled free of cores, stones, pits or pips raw (some cockatiels prefer certain vegetables cooked eg peas and sweetcorn - use your judgment here) fresh (obviously this will be the most nutritious for your cockatiel but you can use frozen or canned) Be aware that your cockatiel's droppings may be runnier than usual with an intake of fruit and vegetables. Some cockatiels will not take to fruit and vegetables straight away Fruit and vegetables are an essential part of your cockatiel's diet so offer them washed and fresh each day - do not give up! Never give your cockatiel alcohol, avocado or chocolate - these can kill your cockatiel. Also avoid asparagus, aubergine or eggplant, cabbage, caffeine (tea and coffee), junk food, milk and cream, raw potato, and rhubarb (including the leaves). Please just use your common sense when it comes to feeding your cockatiel. Many plants and food items are unsafe, so if you have any doubt, do not offer it to your cockatiel. good luck
- Any vegatable is fine raw with 2 exceptions, avacado which should never be fed and potatoes which should not be fed raw. Any type of fruit is fine in small amounts. Fruit is not a normal part of a cockatiels diet so should be limited. You definaly need to try to get your keets of the all seed diet. Both ties and keets are prone to obicety and associated liver problems if feed an all seed diet. To get your keets eating their vegies try coating them with some seed. They will generally get some of the vegtable while eating the seeds and find they like the taste and continue to eat the vegtables. I would also recommned trying to introduce a pelleted diet as part of both the keets and the tiels diet. (part pellet part seed is fine) The easiest way to start is simply to mix pellets with the seed. Never switch completly to pellet as the birds won't reconginze it as food and may not eat it right away.
- Raw veg is uncooked, as you buy it from the store. Birds can eat it raw or cooked, the trick is to be persistent, if they don't eat it, don't give up, keep putting fresh in every day and they will eventually eat it. It could take months, birds are like children, it could take a while before they try something new. You can give them most fruit and veg but not avocados and rhubarb and you should always wash fruit and veg before offering to your birds as they could have been sprayed with insecticides before it got to the store. Broccoli is actually good for your birds, it is a good source of vitamin A, ribo flavin and ascorbic acid. Cabbage is good for them and carrots, these help to promote tissue healing and are a source of vitamin A and potassium. I have an African Grey and he loves cooked cabbage and carrots. Try pomegranate and strawberries, mine love those. I have a Fruit kabob and hang it in the cage with fruit and veg on it, it is a good way to get them to try different things as they like to peck at it as it swings. It would be a good idea to try and swap them to a pellet diet as an all seed diet isn't healthy. Good luck with the fruit and veg, just don't give in.
- Hello. Raw vegetables are fresh uncooked ones. My birds love every morning their fruitplate. On it: cooked rice{little salt},shredded carrots, bread crumbs from whole weat bread, fresh or defrosted corn pieces, papaya pieces, fresh collected greens from the garden, more important grit and a calciumstone. Brokkoli not too much, once or twice a week only. Sliced cucumbres are healthy, without the skin. My birds get once a week cooked potatoes or nudels. They live good and healthy. Have 545 birds now, from finches to macaws... You will see, how crazy the budgies will be for rice... Take time, sometimes they need some days, befor they eat it.{but change it daily}.
